House Resolution 6305 and Our Supplement introduced by the National Parks Conservation Association. Section 102, as modified in the original Pelosi bill would remove all control over the Trust concerning public programs and education. NPS policy is such programs, including museums, must relate to the resources of the park. Contemporary art would not. The Pelosi Bill as originally introduced would have removed NPS authority. We believe that Pelosi's office is positively inclined toward the NPCA supplement, which is supported by the NPS.
Public Rejects Misguided Plans of the Presidio Trust at July 14 Hearing Thanks to all of the 800 plus friends of the Presidio who attended the meeting, even if you were turned away by the guards. The good sense of the Presidio's friends and neighbors was expressed clearly and eloquently. Important legal questions were raised. The most dramatic of these was by Amy Meyer, a former Trust Board member, who pointed out that the huge size of the Fisher Museum would violate the law that established the GGNRA and placed restrictions on building in the Presidio.
NEXT STEPS:
There will be another public meeting prior to closing public comment on September
15. Please plan on another meeting because by that time there will be more information including
the Trust's "Finding of Effects," which is their official view of the expected damage to the National Landmark and the measures that it believes will offset the damage. This will be crucial.

Pelosi introduces "technical" amendments to the Presidio Trust Act in H.R. 6305 that deceptively increase the Trust's independence from oversight by the Park Service or Department of the Interior. PHA and the National Parks Conservation Association are working to preserve NPS involvement in bringing the Presidio back to National Park standards.
